Sharks with Lasers Hockey Program
Sharks with Lasers new player hockey program
an NHL "hockey is for everyone" program <--- cant find contact info
Goal : SWL strives to support, develop and strengthen families on the anvil of the youth sports experience. SWL attempts to provide a place where families with complicated lives can come together to achieve and succeed.
50$ for 6 1-hour classes. Repeatable. Day/time - cant be during work hours
Ages ?
Staff ?
Foster child stipend and charitable sponsors will provide for league fees later if children advance to league play
Some orgs like sal army and youth impact have vans. Is there a bus line that goes by the arena ?
Two learning 1/2 ice groups
1) learn to skate
2) hockey basics
10 mins of verbal instruction (with parents?) and 40 mins of ice time
All equipment is provided except for athletic support
Invite families from rec league to mentor SWL families
Parent social club (parent, guardian, whomever is bringing the child)<-- the "sell" for caseworkers - DCF feels parent success = child success
- ~5 minute per session new hockey parent instruction (how to tie your kids skates, how to clean hockey gear, rules of the game, simple practice to do at home ect ect)
-Free muffins and coffee 9 (lantana costco) maybe a church can do an occasional breakfast
-coordinator on hand to run phone tree, carpool help facebook? call reminder before every session
-Purchasable videos of your kid on the ice (~5$?) Hockey card of your kid? Team up with photo studio for these?
-Sell multiple pack tickets for "family skate" or teen skate times to get to the rink hockey kids and give more time to practice for hockey kids.
-Families arnt necessarily poor they just dont like to/cant make large purchases or long term commitments. Sell lots of the small things to generate money for the program. Package time in small amounts since families can move around a lot.
Panthers or AAA night? Practice on the ice during intermission ? Local sports news bi-weekly feature ala "erics little heroes"?
